Dodging Stevenson attackman (Banick? on ground on left, 2012) - .607 save percent, 17 saves

Of 38 players in 2012, almost 40% of the team, a total of 15, were injured—lost either for the year, permanently, for half the season, or a good number of games, including 1 All-Centennial Honorable Mention starting defenseman, 2 starting attack, both Face-Off Specialists, All-American Honorable Mention LSM and his backup, and 1 starting SSDM ... Based on the RPI SOS formula used by the NCAA, Haverford finished the 2012 season with the 12th strongest schedule in DIII out of 189 teams (Laxpower PR was even higher at #7, higher than all Top-20-ranked teams but #4 Stevenson, #5 Tufts and #19 Gettysburg).

Banno's best outing in 2012 was against then-#3 & NCAA Semi-Finalist Stevenson in the season-opener, stopping 17 shots for a .607 save percentage. In a night game at conference rival McDaniel—who scored 12, 9 and 5 goals vs. Gettysburg, Washington College and Lynchburg's All-American Franc Cook, respectively—Banno earned a .769 percentage with 10 saves, allowing only 3 goals.

As a junior, Banno was USILA All-America Third Team and All-Centennial First Team. His .650 save percentage was #1 among goalies on Top-20-ranked teams (3rd best in DIII) and he anchored D-III’s best man-down defense, stopping 70% of 30 man-down shots on goal and an overall penalty kill rate of 89.3%. He also became the #1 record-holder in Haverford history for career wins (36), career goals-against-average (7.75), career win percentage (72%).

As a sophomore, Banno earned InsideLacrosse/Nike National Player of the Week and his first All-Centennial selection, leading the Black Squirrels to their first-ever Centennial Conference Championship and, as the last Centennial team standing, to the NCAA Quarterfinals vs. eventual-finalist Salisbury, a game where the lead changed multiple times and in which Salisbury needed overtime to down the Squirrels.

As a freshman, Banno led the Black Squirrels to their first-ever undefeated regular season, their first-ever win against conference-power Washington College (outplaying their senior, soon-to-be Goalie of the Year) and reached the NCAA Second Round against eventual-Quarterfinalist Salisbury. He topped Haverford's record for single-season wins (13).
